My Tangent E‑Bike Journey: 5,300 Kilometers and Counting
How It All Began: My Treeosix Test‑Drive My first taste of e‑biking was a Treeosix rental at Cypress Hills — one effortless ride up the Mickey Mouse Hills was all it took to know I needed one of my own. Eager to make it happen, I wandered into our local Canadian Tire in Swift Current and walked out with a Tangent ebike in August 2022. About a month later, we picked up a second e‑bike for my wife—quickly turning solo rides into shared adventures. These days I enjoy the best

Honouring Captain Keith Mirau: Our Hometown Hero
I remember when Tom Frook wrote to town council, urging us to ensure Captain Keith Mirau never fades from our town’s collective story. “Keith was a Gull Lake boy who joined the RCAF and who was killed in a Syrian missile strike in 1974 along with eight other airmen. It was because of this tragedy that National Peacekeepers’ Day came into being. I believe that it is only fitting that Keith’s hometown recognize the contribution of all peacekeepers but, especially, that of Keith

How Two Hitchhikers and a Gull Lake Constable Averted Highway Tragedy
On a cool Friday evening in September 1968—a Friday the 13th, no less—a routine patrol on Highway 1 turned into one of the most dramatic moments in the history of the Gull Lake RCMP detachment. Two 18‑year‑olds from Waterloo, Ontario, Dennis Bonn and Brian McLennan, were hitchhiking west toward British Columbia. Near Whitewood, a new Mercury Cougar pulled over. The driver introduced himself only as “Knobby,” said he was heading for Calgary, and offered them a ride. He was fri

In that video, the theatre, its volunteers, and several local residents are spoken about in ways that are unfair, inaccurate, and unworthy of the place we call home. Gull Lake isn’t perfect—no community is—but we are not a town where people are reduced to insults
