Four southwest Saskatchewan municipalities have launched a joint effort to fund a $600,000 X‑ray upgrade for the Gull Lake Health Centre, following a four‑year approval process with the Saskatchewan Health Authority.
The Town of Gull Lake, R.M. of Carmichael No. 109, R.M. of Webb No. 138, and R.M. of Gull Lake No. 139 are now entering the fundraising stage and inviting residents, organizations, and regional partners to support the project. The committee notes that modern medical equipment is essential for sustaining local healthcare services and for attracting and retaining healthcare professionals.
“Access to up‑to‑date medical equipment is a key factor in attracting and retaining healthcare professionals,” the committee wrote. “Outdated equipment can make recruitment increasingly difficult.”
Why the Upgrade Matters
The health centre serves:
20 residents of Autumn House Independent Living Facility
Patients from the long‑term care home at the Gull Lake Special Care Centre
The wider Gull Lake community
A modern X‑ray unit would:
Reduce travel for diagnostic imaging
Improve convenience for residents, families, and staff
Strengthen local healthcare capacity
Support recruitment and retention of medical professionals
Donations will be held in trust by the Town of Gull Lake and are fully tax‑deductible. All four municipalities are sponsoring the initiative. Anyone interested in contributing or joining the Health Committee can call 306‑672‑3361 or email gulllaketown.admin@sasktel.net.
This project represents a significant investment in the region’s long‑term health capacity and highlights the value of municipal collaboration in maintaining accessible rural healthcare.
