Tompkins School Under Formal Review by Chinook School Division

The Chinook School Division has announced that a formal review of Tompkins School will be undertaken under The School Division Administration Regulations.
This review process is designed to ensure that community members have an opportunity to provide input before any decisions are made about the school’s future.
🔍 What the Review Means
A school review is not a closure notice—it's a fact‑finding process. The Division examines enrolment trends, transportation distances, and educational sustainability to determine whether the school continues to meet provincial and division standards.
According to the official criteria:
The nearest receiving school must be within 40 km.
At least 90 % of K–8 students must live within 75 minutes of another school.
The Division must provide alternate transportation for those beyond that range.
Projected enrolment for the next school year must fall below specific thresholds (for example, fewer than 15 students in K–4 or 59 students in K–12).
Additional considerations include the physical condition of the building, operational cost per student, combined grades, gender balance, and community impact.
📣 Community Participation
Residents are encouraged to stay informed and take part in the process. The Chinook School Division will release timelines and participation details on its official website: 👉 www.chinooksd.ca/board/tompkins-school-review
This review represents an important moment for the Tompkins community—a chance to share local perspectives and help shape the future of rural education in Southwest Saskatchewan.
