Vast green fields stretch to a distant town under a clear sky, with rolling hills and a hint of activity near a small industrial area.

March 24, 1949 – May 5, 2026 (age 77)

Opening Line

With heavy hearts but deep gratitude for her life, the family of Maureen Anne Holizki announces her passing on May 5, 2026, at the age of 77.

Maureen was born on March 24, 1949, in Wolseley, Saskatchewan, the daughter of Bill and Alicia Casey. She grew up in Estevan before beginning her nursing education at the Grey Nuns Hospital School of Nursing, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1971. That same year, she and her husband, Mervin, moved to Gull Lake, where they built their life, raised their family, and became deeply rooted in the community.

Life & Legacy

Maureen’s nursing career spanned decades and many communities, including Gull Lake, Herbert, and northern Saskatchewan. Her professionalism, compassion, and steady presence made her a trusted caregiver to countless patients and families. Late in her career, Maureen returned to her studies and achieved her goal of becoming a Nurse Practitioner—a testament to her dedication to lifelong learning and her commitment to serving others.

Even after retiring from formal practice, Maureen continued to use her skills and her calm, caring nature to support people whenever she could. Her work was never just a job; it was an extension of who she was.

Family was the centre of Maureen’s world. She travelled many miles to attend sporting events, piano recitals, dance competitions, birthdays, graduations, and weddings—always showing up, always cheering, always supporting. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and the time she spent with them was among her greatest joys.

Since her cancer diagnosis in 2008, Maureen faced every challenge with strength, determination, and resilience. Her courage was quiet but unwavering, and it shaped the way her family and friends will remember her.

Family

Maureen is survived by her husband of 57 years, Mervin; her children Tamara (Mark) Miyanaga, Tara (Maurey) Salmon, Joe (Kim) Holizki, and Heather (Trevor) McKinnon; and her grandchildren Katrina (Joe), Téa (Trevor), Skylar (Jason), Mackenzie (Brett), Jasmin, Hannah, Kayla (Aaron), Tianna (Zac), Jalayna (Jacob), Nolan, and Tavia.
