Obituary: Thomas Allan Frook

1950 – 2026

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas Allan Frook on August 1, 2026, at the age of 76, after a long and courageous battle with illness.

Life & Legacy

Born in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan, Tom grew up surrounded by the friendships, stories, and small‑town prairie life that shaped him. He often wrote poetically about those early years—childhood chums, matinees at the Lyceum Theatre, time spent at the Clarendon Hotel, and the colourful characters who helped form the foundation of the man he became.

Tom lived a life rich with adventure, curiosity, and hard work. He never lacked for a story. His career and travels took him across Canada’s High Arctic, where he helped charter trips to the North Pole. He lived off the grid in northern Saskatchewan, played bagpipes with the Calgary Highlanders, and had the honour of performing for members of the Royal Family. Later, he operated businesses that allowed him to do what he loved most: chat with customers, swap stories, and make friends wherever he went.

In 2003, Tom left the prairies and settled in Nova Scotia, where he spent the rest of his life on a beautiful property filled with flowers, projects, pets, and endless room to putter. One of his favourite places was the lookout at Flour Cove, where he could often be found perched on a rock, watching for whale spouts and taking in the sunset.

A true jack of all trades, Tom was a builder, fixer, painter, woodworker, and tinkerer. There were few projects he couldn’t tackle. He loved sharing a dram of scotch with friends, greeting every dog he met, tending to his chickens, enjoying homemade cookies, mowing grass, and working with his hands. His enthusiastic use of a whipper‑snipper occasionally came at the expense of a few of Loretta’s prized flowers—something he accepted with a grin.

Family

Tom was predeceased by his parents, John and Beulah Frook; his brother, John Ellard Frook, and sister‑in‑law Norma; and his sister, Gladys Robertson, and brother‑in‑law Bob Robertson, who were also among his dearest friends.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Loretta; his children, Jenny and Tim; his stepchildren, Melissa and Jeff; his faithful companion, Millie; and many friends and family members who will miss his stubborn spirit and the tales that grew a little with each telling.

Service Details

A celebration of Tom’s life will be held at a later date.
