Obituary: Allen “Al” Edward Cooledge

1947 – 2026

Every life leaves a story behind, and Al Cooledge’s was one filled with humour, creativity, and a deep love for learning and sharing. With great sadness, the family announces Al’s sudden passing at his home in Swift Current on September 4, 2026, at the age of 79.

Life & Legacy  

Born in Gull Lake on March 10, 1947, Al grew up on the family farm near Webb before making Swift Current his home. He spent more than 40 years as a Meat Cutter at Treen Packers, a career marked by dedication and hard work.

Al was known as a joker—always ready with a story, a prank, or a laugh. His curiosity and creativity shaped every part of his life. He began his working years as a mechanic and carried that love of learning forward, exploring photography, knife making, woodworking, art, and music. He taught himself to play guitar and cherished evenings spent singing and playing with friends.

As a single dad, Al passed on practical skills to his children—sewing, knitting, cooking — lessons they remember with gratitude. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting, camping, and fishing. Later in life, his garden became his pride and joy. He delighted in growing unusual and exotic foods, always eager to try something new and share the experience with others.

Family  

Al is survived by his children:

• Allen (Sandy) and their daughters Brittany and Brianna

• Tracey (Rob) and their children Matthieu and Ella

He is also survived by his brother Walter (Sharon) Cooledge, and many nieces and nephews.

Through his partner Myrna, Al is remembered by her children:

• Crystal (Jason), children Rhett and Dakota

• Shannon (Jason), children Brianna and Carson

• Ricky (Deanna), child Thomas

• Dennis (Angel), child Aidan

Al was predeceased by his longtime partner Myrna Furseth, his parents Everrett and Irene Cooledge, his sister Joyce (and brother‑in‑law Bruce Freestone), and his brother Jim Cooledge.

Service Details  

Arrangements are entrusted to Warren’s Funeral Home in Swift Current.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites friends and community members to plant a tree, shrub, or flowers in Al’s memory—a tribute fitting for a man who found joy in nurturing life and trying new things.
