Gull Lake Lions Open Season Friday as SWAC Fall Sports Begin

Local football opener and officiating clinic highlight the start of autumn athletics
The fall sports season is officially underway across the South West Athletic Conference (SWAC), and Gull Lake enters September with two key early‑season events: the Lions’ 6‑man football opener and a local volleyball officiating clinic. Both anchor the week’s activity as regional sports ramp up across the southwest.
Gull Lake Lions: Season Opener This Friday
The Gull Lake Lions begin their 6‑man football schedule Friday, travelling to Southey for their league opener. The matchup provides the first look at this year’s roster and sets the tone for their September run.
Maple Creek, the other 6‑man team in SWAC, also opens its season Friday, hosting Eatonia.
Volleyball Officiating Clinic — Sept. 17
Gull Lake will host a SWAC beginner on‑court volleyball officiating clinic on Sept. 17. This session is designed for new officials, junior coaches, senior athletes, and community volunteers preparing for the busy October volleyball schedule.
Regional Sports Roundup
Football Shaunavon began its 9‑man campaign with a 14–8 victory over Fort Qu’Appelle. SCCHS kicked off 12‑man play with a decisive 44–22 win against Estevan. Maple Creek hosts Eatonia on Friday as the 6‑man schedule begins.

Cross‑Country District meet: Oct. 8 at Streambank Golf Course in Eastend Open to athletes in Grades 3–12
