As Federal Carbon Tax Rises SaskPower Bills Rise 3%

In the New Year, consumers of SaskPower will experience a three percent rise in their electricity prices due to the federal carbon tax. The Federal Carbon Tax on SaskPower's carbon emissions will increase from $50 per tonne to $65 per tonne on January 1, 2023. The rate hike is distinct from SaskPower's previously-announced, four-percent rate increase, which went into effect on September 1, 2022.

The federal carbon tax was implemented in 2019 for emissions exceeding certain levels, and it has since been increased on a yearly basis. SaskPower is responsible for collecting the carbon tax from its customers through a rate rider that is updated annually on January 1.
