SaskPower plans to begin putting smart metres in the homes of Saskatchewan customers. When an outage occurs, SaskPower will be able to identify it thanks to the use of smart metres. Outages are currently reported by customers to SaskPower. Faster response times will be possible thanks to the transition to smart metres.
Aside from the 17,000 smart metres installed in homes, the province has installed 45,000 commercial and industrial smart metres. Smart metres will be distributed across the province over the next few years.
