Gull Lake is once again proving that small towns can think big.
The Town has launched a community investment initiative to restore a well-known piece of local history—the old drugstore—a brick building built in 1913, located in the heart of the downtown core. Ownership has been transferred to the Gull Lake Property Development Co-op, which will oversee renovations and future use.
Long recognized as a downtown landmark, the old drugstore has housed a number of local businesses over the years. Its restoration will preserve that legacy while adding new professional, retail, and short-term rental space that complements Gull Lake’s growing downtown.
This initiative builds on the success of the Economic Development Committee’s revitalization of the once-vacant funeral home, now home to the Yellow Canary Book Store. In recent years, downtown Gull Lake has also seen new momentum with the construction of the Sarcan building, the opening of Blended Souls, Capel Gwyn Antiques & Collectables, and a licensed cannabis retail store currently under development. Together, these projects reflect a steady pattern of renewal and confidence in the community’s future.
A feasibility study has confirmed the building’s structural integrity and long-term potential. Renovation is by far the more cost-effective option, and with the opportunity at hand, it makes far greater sense than demolition. This is more than a renovation—it’s a smart investment in Gull Lake’s future, offering real returns and a lasting legacy.
