The Gull Lake Property Development Cooperative has received a $20,000 grant from the Saskatchewan Heritage Foundation to support facade restoration on its downtown revitalization project.
The funding brings the cooperative’s total investment to $55,000, marking a significant milestone in efforts to restore the former drugstore building on Proton Avenue—a structure dating back to 1913 that has long been considered a cornerstone of Gull Lake’s commercial district.
This announcement follows strong local support earlier this fall, when residents had already purchased 35 shares in the cooperative. The new grant increases the project’s total investment to $55,000, combining local contributions with provincial funding.
The cooperative model is designed to give residents a direct stake in community growth. Shares are available at $1,000 each, with no cap on participation. The project aims to preserve local heritage while creating new commercial rental space to expand Gull Lake’s business community.
