History in the Making
Gull Lake Arena witnessed something special this week. In the final chapter of the very first Saskatchewan Senior Women’s Hockey League (SSWHL) season, the Falcons swept the Dalmeny Sabres 2–0 to claim the inaugural Steffes Cup. Even if you couldn’t be there in person, the excitement has been echoing across town ever since.
Key Moments and Standout Performances
Hometown Hero: Taylor Keenleyside — Fresh out of the penalty box in the third period, Gull Lake’s own Taylor Keenleyside stepped into a point shot with 10:25 left, breaking a 1–1 tie and delivering the biggest goal in the league’s young history.
Kelcie Ward’s Equalizer — Ward kept the Falcons rolling with a crucial second‑period goal that shifted momentum back to Gull Lake.
Sister Duo Sparks the Winner — Brienna and Britannia Gillanders combined on the championship‑winning play, showing the chemistry that made them key contributors throughout the season.
The Wall in Net — Goaltender Jasey Book shut the door when it mattered most, turning aside a dangerous 2‑on‑1 early in the third and allowing just one goal across the entire two‑game series.
Community Pride and What Comes Next
Forward Brienna Gillanders, named Hardest Worker of the Game, summed up the moment perfectly in the post‑game show: winning the first women’s league title in Saskatchewan felt “pretty phenomenal.”
Congratulations to Taylor, Jasey, the Gillanders sisters, Kelcie, and the entire Falcons roster—you've made Gull Lake proud and carved your names into local sports history.
A championship win, a packed arena, and a night Gull Lake won’t forget.
