The Gull Lake Fire Department was among the Saskatchewan fire services recognized with the Premier’s Commendation during a ceremony in Regina. The award acknowledges extraordinary efforts during the province’s devastating 2025 wildfire season.
Premier Scott Moe presented the commendations. He was joined by Corrections, Policing and Public Safety Minister Tim McLeod, K.C., and Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency President and Fire Commissioner Marlo Pritchard.
“The Premier’s Commendation recognizes those whose actions exemplify courage, responsibility and service to others,” Premier Moe said. “Those honoured today responded decisively in moments of great need. They demonstrated the strength of character and commitment that uphold the values of our province.”
Minister McLeod added:
“This award is an acknowledgement of the bravery of those protecting Saskatchewan families and communities during one of the most devastating wildfire seasons on record. The award recipients are representative of the unwavering commitment and strength that defines this province.
Gull Lake’s Northern Deployment
Earlier this year, four members of the Gull Lake Fire Department—Stacy Schmidt, Kara Dyer, Kyle Rozel, and Tim Temoshawsky—joined northern deployments to battle wildfires around Pelican Narrows.
T
heir mission ran from June 3–7. It involved patrolling fire lines, protecting remote camps, and knocking down hotspots to prevent flare‑ups.
Their service was documented in Gull Lake Events coverage of the deployment and their return home. These stories captured both the intensity of the work and the pride of the community in their efforts.
Recognition at the Ceremony
Volunteer and municipal fire departments, along with Type 2 firefighters, accepted the commendation on behalf of all members who fought the fires.
Gull Lake Fire Chief Bentley Gibson attended the ceremony and formally accepted the award on behalf of the Gull Lake Fire Department.
In the official ceremony photo, Chief Gibson can be seen standing in the second row, just behind and to the left of Premier Scott Moe. His presence underscored Gull Lake’s frontline role in protecting communities during the wildfire season and brought the recognition home to the local level.
Local Pride and Legacy
For Gull Lake, the commendation is more than a provincial honour. It is a reflection of the department’s dedication, teamwork, and willingness to serve beyond town borders.
From northern deployments to local fire calls, the firefighters have shown the courage and responsibility that the award celebrates.
The recognition stands as a proud moment for the community. It affirms that Gull Lake’s firefighters are not only guardians of their own town but also part of the wider provincial effort to protect Saskatchewan families during times of crisis.
