Gull Lake Firefighters Head North to Battle Saskatchewan Wildfire

Four firefighters from Gull Lake Fire & Rescue—Stacy Schmidt, Kara Dyer, Kyle Rozel, and Tim Temoshawsky—have stepped up to assist in battling the raging wildfires in northern Saskatchewan. Early this morning, they deployed to Pelican Narrows, bringing their specialized wildland unit designed for maneuvering through tough terrain and handling both bush and structural fires.


The request for assistance came in on Sunday, and the firefighters quickly arranged time off from work to volunteer for the mission. Their swift response reflects their deep commitment to firefighting and community service.


Gull Lake Firefighters Answer the Call

Stacy Schmidt, Kara Dyer, Kyle Rozel, and Tim Temoshawsky are now on the front lines, assisting in northern Saskatchewan’s wildfire response. Fire Chief Bentley Gibson emphasized the advantages of the department’s wildland unit, noting that it is well-equipped to handle the challenges of the northern wildfires. Despite the deployment, Gull Lake Fire & Rescue remains fully operational locally, with 16 firefighters, two auxiliary members, and three additional fire units ensuring continued emergency response in the Gull Lake area.


State of Emergency Declared

As Saskatchewan battles a growing wildfire crisis, emergency crews across the province are working tirelessly to contain the flames. The province has declared a state of emergency, with over 21 active wildfires threatening communities. Gull Lake’s firefighters are now part of the larger coordinated effort to protect affected areas.


Government Support & Current Status

The province is covering the costs for the firefighters’ time and equipment usage, enabling them to focus on safeguarding homes and critical infrastructure in Pelican Narrows.
