April 8, 2026 Council Meeting Summary
Council addressed financial approvals, correspondence, and seasonal staffing at its April 8 meeting. The session included updates from staff and preparations for the upcoming summer season.
Council reviewed the Recreation Director’s April report, and Water Plant Operator D. Vold attended briefly early in the meeting to provide operational updates. The minutes of the March 25 meeting were approved.
Financial approvals included cheques #26085–#26126 totaling $218,970.26, Education Property Tax remittances of $14,430.02, and payroll EFTs of $22,678.56.
Council received correspondence related to the Water Rights License and Approval to Operate Works for Water Supply Wells (PW3‑2021), the RCMP’s January statistics summary, and an SPCA update on the Homeward Bound Capital Campaign and the Stauber Family Memorial Animal Shelter, which outlines ongoing fundraising and development of the region’s new shelter facility.
Seasonal staffing preparations continued with the hiring of two summer students — C. Taylor and A. Doroteo — at $19.00 per hour. After a declared conflict of interest, Council also approved four Summer Play Program staff: A. Stusrud, Skylar Tindall, Mazin Zanidean, and Sophia Harvey, each at $17.00 per hour.
Council approved the purchase of two DV/DT filters at a cost of $3,263.00 plus taxes and shipping. The filters help protect the motors that run municipal systems, improving reliability and reducing wear.
Council meets twice monthly, with meetings open to the public.
