Advantages of Advertising in the Gull Lake Visitors Guide: A Personal Perspective

A hand holds five colorful Gull Lake Visitors Guides against a scenic backdrop of rolling green and yellow fields with distant hills under a bright blue sky.

As a former mayor, business owner, and current member of the Tourism and Economic Development Committee, I've seen how effective local promotion can be. I advertised my business, Campbell’s Accommodations, in the guide last year, and it paid off. The Visitors Guides provided in my accommodations were incredibly popular—many guests were pleasantly surprised to discover just how many local businesses Gull Lake has to offer. I received lots of positive feedback on our downtown businesses, showing our vibrant Gull Lake community deserves even more exposure.

The guide is distributed at various local businesses throughout Gull Lake, including the Campground, ensuring it reaches a wide range of residents and visitors exploring our town. Additionally, as a partner in the Southwest Saskatchewan Tourism and Investment Attraction Hub, Gull Lake ensures local businesses gain exposure at the Visitor Centre—just off Highway 1 near Maple Creek—which sees a thousand visitors a week. Last year, we printed 500 guides; this year, we’re doubling that number to 1,000. Combined with social media promotions across the town’s platforms, this initiative offers a powerful dual-marketing strategy that expands your business’s reach to both locals and visitors.

The Economic Development and Tourism Committee exists to advise the Town Council on initiatives that boost our local economy and promote sustainable business growth. Our mandate includes developing strategic marketing plans, supporting community-based initiatives, managing the Gull Lake Museum and Campground, and crafting materials that highlight Gull Lake’s many opportunities. By advertising in the Visitors Guide, you're not only promoting your business—as I did with Campbell’s Accommodations—but also supporting the dedicated, volunteer-driven efforts of the Committee to showcase Gull Lake as a welcoming stop for the many travelers passing through or near our community, giving more people a reason to explore all that we have to offer.

Please note that the deadline for this year’s guides is tomorrowact now to secure your spot. If you can’t participate this year, I encourage you to consider advertising next year to benefit from this dynamic promotion. If you would like your business to be included, please email: gulllakeedc@gmail.com.

Join us in promoting a vibrant Gull Lake—where every advertisement helps elevate our local scene, supports community volunteers, and boosts your business to new heights.
