Gull Lake's Whitecap Winterfest Event drew a good crowd on Saturday and was a lot of fun for everyone who went. The event is made possible thanks to the various organizations and individuals that help plan and deliver the events, as well as Lindsay Aliban, an economic development officer who facilitated in putting it together. Of course, the event would not be possible without the support of its principal sponsor, Whitecap Resourses Inc, whose donation helped fund the event. The Town of Gull Lake also contributes to the annual fireworks show.
This annual event is organized in conjunction with a hockey tournament, and the U19 tournament this year helped attract a respectable turnout. The Gull Lake Elks Club kicked off the celebration with their traditional pancake breakfast. Food and drink vendors provided tasty food and beverages. Paige Farr helped manage the trade show in the small hall. Danny Kazam's magic act, sponsored by the Gull Lake Tourism Committee, entertained children of all ages. This year's pie eating event included two rounds, with two champions, "Cade Mitchell" and "Chase Collier". The Clairbank 4H Club sponsored Winterfest's first-ever Chicken Poop Contest. The graduates hosted a musical chair fundraiser. Many people were taken on tours throughout town by horse-drawn wagon. The Curling Club held their annual draw to the button contest. The kids had fun playing street hockey in the park. The Gull Lake Kinnetes manned the bonfire and provided the smores. The night concluded with fireworks and a cabaret featuring the band Rock Candy.
The Winterfest Event was organized several years ago to provide a unique event for Gull Lake to attract visitors. Thanks to everyone who came out and took part in the family event and to the groups and individuals who helped make this years Winterfest a success.
