Town Crew Install Gull Lake's First Lighted Crosswalk

The Town Crew installed the first lighted crosswalk in Gull Lake last week at the corner of Rutland Avenue and Main Street. Poles have been erected in four locations near the Gull Lake School in preparation for the installation of the lighted signs.

Thanks to former Councilor Emella Waiser, the town received a grant of $47,438 from the SGI Provincial Traffic Safety Fund. The grant assists in funding projects that enhance street, school zone, and intersection safety. Emella submitted the grant application on behalf of the Town of Gull Lake, with the title "Keeping Our Community Safe." She applied for the grant in order to help improve the safety of children crossing streets on their way to school and pedestrians crossing the busy highway on their way to downtown.

Pedestrians can activate the flashing lights at crosswalks by pressing a button on the pole just before crossing the street. These significant improvements to the crosswalks substantially increase the safety of everyone crossing the streets at these locations.
