The SWT Lyceum Theatre has been part of Gull Lake’s community life for more than 100 years. As a community‑owned, non‑profit theatre operated by the Gull Lake & District Cultural Co‑operative, it continues to offer affordable, family‑friendly entertainment for residents across Southwest Saskatchewan.
As someone who previously served as board chair, I’ve seen firsthand how much dedication, volunteerism, and local pride go into keeping this historic theatre thriving. Its strength has always come from the people who step forward to help guide it and from the community it serves.
The theatre’s mission is simple and enduring:
“We pride ourselves in providing affordable and quality entertainment for the whole family.”
A Theatre Built on Community Values
The Lyceum isn’t just a place to watch movies. It’s a gathering space, a piece of living history, and a reminder of what a small town can accomplish when it works together. Over the years, volunteers and donors have helped maintain and modernize the theatre, ensuring it remains accessible and welcoming to all. Ultimately, the theatre exists to serve the community.
Why New Board Members Matter
The theatre is guided by a volunteer board that helps oversee operations, support programming, and ensure long‑term sustainability. A diverse and representative board ensures that the theatre remains a neutral, welcoming space for all residents, reflecting the broad interests of our entire community. The board’s primary responsibility is to listen to and reflect the values of the community it serves.
As a former chair, I can say it’s a great opportunity to work with dedicated people and a supportive community. Strong, community‑minded board members are essential to carrying forward the Lyceum’s mission and history.
If you value:
• local arts and culture
• community service
• preserving Gull Lake’s heritage
• supporting family‑friendly entertainment
…you may be a great fit for the board.

The Lyceum has thrived for more than a century because people in this community continue to step up. This is an opportunity to help guide its next chapter.
