Spotlight on the SWT Lyceum Theatre: Powered by People, Fueled by Community

Lyceum Theatre with marquee shows "Now Playing" and "Coming Soon". Beige building, clear sky, crosswalk, and nearby parked car. Calm setting.

For more than a century, the SWT Lyceum Theatre has been a gathering place in Gull Lake—a spot where families, friends, and neighbours come together to share stories on the big screen. From its early days in 1911 to its community‑owned revival in 1978, the Lyceum has always been more than just a theatre. It’s a piece of our history, a hub of local culture, and a symbol of what can be achieved when people work together.

But behind the glowing marquee and the smell of fresh popcorn is a dedicated team that keeps the Lyceum thriving.

At the heart of day‑to‑day operations is Theatre Manager Cole Girodat, whose leadership and commitment ensure that the theatre runs smoothly. Supporting him is a small but mighty group of staff members, who step in to cover shifts and keep the theatre running seamlessly when Cole is away.

Guiding the theatre’s long‑term vision is the volunteer board of the Gull Lake & District Cultural Co‑operative, led by Chairperson Steve Haithwaite. This group of community‑minded volunteers provides governance and direction, ensuring the Lyceum remains strong for future generations. Their work often happens behind the scenes, but its impact is felt every time the lights dim and the projector rolls.

And of course, a special thank‑you goes to the volunteers who run the concession—the friendly faces who greet you at the counter, hand you a bag of popcorn, and make movie night feel complete.

What makes the Lyceum even more remarkable is that its support stretches beyond Gull Lake. People from neighboring communities—Hazlet, Shaunavon, Swift Current, Maple Creek, and more—attend shows and contribute to keeping the theatre alive. The Lyceum is not just a local treasure; it’s a regional one, uniting communities through shared experiences and memories.

Together, this team—manager, staff, board, and volunteers, supported by audiences from across the region—represents the best of community spirit. They remind us that pride isn’t built by one town alone, but by many hands working together.

So the next time you settle into a seat at the Lyceum, take a moment to appreciate the people who make it possible. Their dedication ensures that this historic theatre continues to be a place where memories are made, laughter is shared, and community spirit shines across our corner of Saskatchewan.

🎬 Here’s to the team behind the SWT Lyceum Theatre—thank you for keeping the lights glowing and the movie magic alive.
