RCMP Warns Residents About New Lottery Mail Scam

Residents across Saskatchewan, including rural southwest communities, are being warned about a new mail scam involving handwritten envelopes and fake “Set for Life” lottery winnings.
The Saskatchewan RCMP says several people have reported receiving letters that appear official but are designed to trick recipients into calling a fraudulent phone number and sharing personal information.
What the letter looks like
According to the RCMP, the scam letters often include:
Your correct mailing address
“Set for Life Lottery” letterhead
A return address and file number
A set of “winning” numbers
A large lump‑sum “prize”
Instructions to call a number to claim the winnings
The return address and phone number do not belong to any legitimate lottery organization.
What to do
The RCMP is urging residents to stay alert:
Be cautious of unexpected mail claiming you’ve won a prize
Never share personal or financial information with unverified senders
Avoid calling numbers or visiting websites listed in suspicious letters
Do not call the number—this is the key step that prevents the scam from progressing
If you receive one of these letters, report it to your local police detachment or the Canadian Anti‑Fraud Centre.
Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1‑800‑222‑TIPS (8477).
