New Season, New Discoveries: T. rex Discovery Centre Unveils Major Exhibit Additions for 2026

The T. rex Discovery Centre in Eastend is getting ready to open for the 2026 season on May 16, and visitors will see several new additions when they walk through the doors. The biggest change is a dramatic new scene built around Scotty — the world’s largest Tyrannosaurus rex — now shown in a dynamic hunting pose.
Later this spring, the centre will install two life-size Thescelosaurus casts, completing a long-imagined display that shows Scotty interacting with prey. The new setup adds movement, scale, and storytelling to one of Saskatchewan’s most iconic fossils.
Brand new for 2026, visitors can also test their speed on an interactive racing track to see how they stack up against a T. rex, and a new outdoor photo stand-in will be ready for those family "dino selfies." More exhibit updates will roll out throughout the year as the centre continues expanding its programming.
Why this matters to the southwest
The T. rex Discovery Centre may sit in the Frenchman River Valley, but its reach extends far beyond the region. Visitors travel from across Saskatchewan, Alberta, Montana, and well beyond to see Scotty each year — and every new exhibit strengthens the southwest’s role as a destination for science, tourism, and heritage.
For local communities, the impact is real. Families stop for fuel, food, and overnight stays in towns like Gull Lake, Shaunavon, and Maple Creek. These new displays don’t just refresh a museum—they reinforce the southwest as a world-class destination and a place where rural communities continue to shape Saskatchewan’s story.
