A prolonged period of very cold wind chills is expected.

A multi-day extreme cold event begins overnight tonight for southern Saskatchewan. Overnight low temperatures near -30°C with winds up to 15 km/h will produce extremely cold wind chill values nearing -45°C tonight.

Wind chills will moderate slightly during the day but will return to extreme values Monday night, affecting southeastern portions of the province.

Extreme cold puts everyone at risk.

Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.

Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.

If it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside.

Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill create an elevated risk to health, such as frostbite and hypothermia.
