Employment Scam Posting to Local Southwest Buy and Sell Social Media Groups

The following RCMP Saskatchewan Crime Watch Advisory was released today:

Employment Scam in local social media groups - Shaunavon

Shaunavon Detachment is making citizens aware of a current employment scam where scammers are posting to local southwest buy and sell social media groups offering home employment. Victims go through a “job interview” and then are e-mailed a cheque to deposit to their own account. The scammer then asks the victim/employee to make purchases such as gift cards on their behalf using the provided funds. The cheque is fake and the victim ends up losing their own money. Citizens are advised to be cautious of any similar job offers and if they have lost money to contact their local Police detachment. .
