Dodgeball Tournament Supports Rec Complex at Fourth Annual Event

A fundraiser first
The fourth annual dodgeball tournament at the Gull Lake Recreation Complex served once again as a key spring fundraiser for the facility. Final totals are still being calculated, though past tournaments have raised up to $8,000, helping support ongoing operations and maintenance. Community participation remained strong throughout the event.
Eight teams take the floor
Eight teams participated in this year’s tournament. Most players were from Gull Lake, with others joining from Shaunavon, Swift Current, Maple Creek, and university students home for the weekend. With the ice removed for the season, the tournament was held on the rink floor, allowing two games to run at the same time. Temperatures inside the arena stayed cool, but attendance remained consistent.

The tournament concluded with both a championship and consolation final:
Champions: The Ball Fondlers
Second place: Dodgy Style
Consolation winners: The Mother Duckers
The mix of team names added a familiar, light character to the event.
Food booth draws steady interest
Rachel Harvey returned to operate the food booth for this event only. Earlier this year, she earned recognition at the SWT Rink Burger All Stars, and her award‑winning rink burger—including the maple bacon jam—sold out once again.
A growing spring fixture
Now in its fourth year, the dodgeball tournament has become a reliable spring fixture for the community. The event provides activity between seasons at the Rec Complex and continues to bring together local residents, visiting players, and supporters from across the region.
