Gull Lake Weighs the Future of Local X‑Ray Services

A discussion is underway in Gull Lake about whether the community should move toward a modern digital X‑ray system at the local health centre. The current unit still uses film processing, a method most facilities phased out years ago.
Digital imaging would provide faster results, clearer scans, and fewer trips out of town for routine diagnostics. In rural communities, X‑ray services are most often used by seniors, chronic-care patients, and residents dealing with minor injuries or workplace‑related incidents—groups that benefit from timely, local access to imaging.
The cost remains the central question. Early estimates place installation work near the half‑million‑dollar range, with the equipment adding roughly another $200,000.
These figures were shared at a recent town hall, where residents had an opportunity to ask questions and hear how the process works. The Gull Lake & Rural Regional Alliance says the province has indicated the project can proceed if the community chooses to pursue it. Before any decisions are made, the Alliance is waiting for a detailed cost breakdown from the Ministry of Health.
Once that information arrives, local leaders will be in a position to review the full scope of the project and determine the next steps.
