Gull Lake Community Discovery Session Next Steps
Back in December a Community Discovery Session was held to start the process of strategic planning for this community! The input and feedback clearly validate the need to move forward with the process of developing a plan. It is also noteworthy that there is evidently a clear appreciation for community participation that represents diversity of perspectives. WHAT IS NEXT? Develop a list that is inclusive and representative of diverse set of stakeholders Determine organization

Gull Lake Recreation Complex Board Needs You!
The Rec Complex Board wants to continue with the upgrades in our rink. The dressing rooms look great, and we want to improve our lobby, entry, and main bathrooms. We have the opportunity for a big event in the fall, and we want everything in tip top shape. But we can’t do it with our dwindling numbers. Do you think you have what it takes to make our rink the best it can be? We want you on our team! If you have pride in our community and our rink and would like a say in how th

Town of Gull Lake Passes an Urban Hen Bylaw
The Urban Hen Bylaw was approved by the Town of Gull Lake at its regular meeting on November 23, 2022. This bylaw enables Gull Lake residents to keep up to four chickens within the municipal limits. According to the bylaw, all owners must have a valid license for their hens, and residents are not permitted to own roosters. The bylaw will allow for a two-year pilot program beginning in January 2023. Following that period, Council will revaluate the program's viability. For mor

Town of Gull Lake Launches New Website
The Town of Gull Lake has developed a new website with a fresh look. The Town of Gull Lake, Gull Lake Tourism, and Tourism Saskatchewan all contributed to the investment in a new website. The design, content, and organization of the website are all strong points. The website's slogan, "A safe and friendly community," is a little generic, but slogans can be changed. My personal preference would be to label the town as a "family-friendly community" or something similar. Gull La

How Two Hitchhikers and a Gull Lake Constable Averted Highway Tragedy
On a cool Friday evening in September 1968—a Friday the 13th, no less—a routine patrol on Highway 1 turned into one of the most dramatic moments in the history of the Gull Lake RCMP detachment. Two 18‑year‑olds from Waterloo, Ontario, Dennis Bonn and Brian McLennan, were hitchhiking west toward British Columbia. Near Whitewood, a new Mercury Cougar pulled over. The driver introduced himself only as “Knobby,” said he was heading for Calgary, and offered them a ride. He was fri

What Holds a Small Town Together Isn’t Viral Noise—It's Us
A viral video and a wave of outside commentary can travel far faster than the truth, and this week the Lyceum Theatre found itself at the centre of a story that doesn’t reflect who we are or how we treat one another. In that video, the theatre, its volunteers, and several local residents are spoken about in ways that are unfair, inaccurate, and unworthy of the place we call home. Gull Lake isn’t perfect—no community is—but we are not a town where people are reduced to insults
