Saskatchewan is marking Small Business Week from October 19–25, 2026, recognizing the entrepreneurs who drive the province’s economy. According to the Government of Saskatchewan’s 2026 Small Business Profile, the province is home to 156,850 small businesses, representing 98.8% of all businesses and employing roughly 30% of Saskatchewan’s workforce.

In communities like Gull Lake, that impact is visible every day. Our town’s economic strength comes from the people who choose to build and operate businesses here—from Main Street storefronts to family‑run agricultural operations, trades, hospitality, and home‑based services.

Gull Lake’s Local Connection

Small Business Week highlights the role of entrepreneurs who:

  • Keep everyday services close to home — groceries, repairs, meals, and essentials.

  • Support Main Street through independent shops and local operators.

  • Build family‑run stability that anchors the community long‑term.

  • Grow new ventures that expand options for residents and visitors.

A Gull Lake Example Reaching Orbit

One of Gull Lake’s own small businesses, Trails End Buffalo Stix, recently earned national attention when its locally made bison jerky was selected by Canadian astronaut Joshua Kutryk for the upcoming NASA–SpaceX mission to the International Space Station.

It’s a reminder that rural entrepreneurship doesn’t just support communities — sometimes it reaches orbit.

Local Businesses Giving Back

Small businesses also strengthen Gull Lake through community support. Throughout 2026, local entrepreneurs contributed to community projects, supported local and regional charity events, backed seniors’ programming, and helped sustain recreation and activities across the area. From sponsoring minor hockey to supporting the seniors’ centre, their involvement shows how deeply small businesses are woven into the life of the community—not just as service providers, but as active partners in keeping Gull Lake strong.

Why It Matters

Small businesses are central to Gull Lake’s identity. They support jobs, strengthen community life, and shape the town’s future. Small Business Week is a chance to recognize the owners, employees, and families who keep Gull Lake moving forward—one business at a time.
