Province to Create Saskatchewan Marshals Service

Following its announcement in the Throne Speech, the government of Saskatchewan is creating a new Marshals Service. The SMS will have a complement of roughly seventy officers. Saskatchewan. The Service will assist the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and municipal police forces as needed and have police jurisdiction throughout the province. 

The Service will be set up by the government as an independent agency that reports to the Minister of Corrections, Policing, and Public Safety. The RCMP will continue to be the provincial police service of jurisdiction. By 2026, the SMS should be up and running at an estimated yearly cost of around $20 million.
