Family & Legacy
Survived by: Wife Benita; children Sarah (2004), Lucas (2007), and Barrie (2013); mother Irene (James); sister Rachel; brothers Tracy (Michelle) and Jamie; parents-in-law Kent & Cindy Nelson; siblings-in-law Honni (Daniel), Ginny, Cassie (Nick), Taylor (Kwanita), Kenna (Chris), Barrie, and Kaylyn (Andrew); and many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by: Infant daughter Grace; father Doug McMillan.
Community ties: Shawn was born in Maple Creek and raised on the family farm in Consul. He moved to Gull Lake in 1993 and Pennant in 1994, attending high school in Cabri where he met Benita Nelson. They married in 2000 and raised their family in Carmichael and later on an acreage south of Gull Lake.
Education & career: Shawn earned a Geography degree from the University of Regina and worked in the oilfield industry as an operator in the Gull Lake area.
Personal legacy: Shawn loved planning family trips — from Disney World and Disneyland to Las Vegas, New York, Banff, Lake Louise, Vancouver, Miami, and Europe. He was passionate about NASCAR, Saskatchewan Roughriders football, and Edmonton Oilers hockey. He recently completed his man cave, a space he loved to share with friends and family.
