Recap: Key Highlights from the Town of Gull Lake's September 25, 2024 Council Meeting

The Town of Gull Lake held its regular council meeting on September 25, 2024, at the Town Council Chambers. Here are the key highlights from the meeting:

Councillors Tyson Migneault, Bentley Gibson (via telephone), Terry Stevenson, Steve Haithwaite

Meeting Overview:


The meeting was called to order at 5:00 p.m. by Deputy Mayor Kirk, with a quorum present.


Minutes Approval:


The minutes of the last regular meeting held on September 11, 2024, were approved as presented.


Accounts Approval:


The council approved the accounts for cheque #24755 to #24778 totaling $60,341.02 and payroll EFTs for $3,500.00.


Staff Reports:


The Economic Development Office, represented by L. Alliban, submitted a written report for September 2024.


New Business:


Councillor Stevenson declared a conflict of interest (family member) and left the council chambers at 5:27 p.m. during the discussion of a property purchase.


The council made an offer for the purchase of Plan Q2639 Ext 65 (Owned by Stevenson Rescources Ltd) with two options: $155,000.00 for immediate purchase and transfer or $165,000.00 with payment and transfer in January 2025. The motion was carried.


Councillor Stevenson returned to the meeting at 5:40 p.m.


The council approved the Façade & Site Improvement Incentive Policy application submitted by Gull Lake Lodge Motel Ltd., subject to the submission of final bills.


Additional Motions:


The council authorized Wyatt Engineering to complete the 2024 groundwater sampling at the Gull Lake Landfill located at SE 18-13-18-W3M as per the proposal dated September 24, 2024.


The council authorized Stantec, an environmental consultant working with Imperial Oil, to conduct environmental investigations at 2560 and 2561 Proton Avenue as per the proposal dated September 24, 2024.


The council approved the proposal submitted by Sharon Tustian to place an 18” x 24” powder-coated metal monument on Plot 3, Section 2, Block 6 in Gull Lake Cemetery.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:10 p.m.
