Gull Lake is beaming with pride as one of its own, Brooklyn Stanford, has earned national recognition for her outstanding writing. Brooklyn recently won the Royal Canadian Legion National Youth Remembrance Senior Essay - Literary Contest for her essay, Honour of His Duties.

Drawing on her father’s experiences as a military veteran, Brooklyn’s essay reflects on the challenges faced by veterans, particularly PTSD. Her achievement serves as a reminder of the importance of honoring their sacrifices and resilience, while encouraging us all to engage with themes of remembrance.

As part of her achievement, Brooklyn and her father will attend the 2025 National Remembrance Day Ceremony in Ottawa, making this accomplishment even more meaningful for her and her family.

This is a proud moment for Gull Lake, highlighting the creativity and compassion that make our community special. Brooklyn’s success serves as an inspiration to all, encouraging our youth to pursue their passions and make a difference.

Congratulations, Brooklyn! Your community stands behind you, cheering for all the ways your voice will continue to resonate.
