Exploring Opportunities To Help The Local Economy

This earlier this week Maple Creek announced that a Tim Hortons will be opening a location in the town. Obtaining a franchise like this for a small community is a significant accomplishment and a good indicator of how the local economy is viewed.

Perhaps a Tim Hortons or other chain will open shop in Gull Lake one day. Our community is fortunate to have excellent businesses and an active Economic Development Committee. The EDC has done an excellent job of assisting downtown businesses with community markets, social media assistance, and repurposing vacant buildings. However, there is still progress to be made in the downtown economy, which would benefit both existing businesses and increase our chances of attracting new ones.

We need to look for opportunities and solutions that will assist us in addressing unoccupied buildings, a shortage of hotel rooms, and vacant commercial lots downtown. Addressing these issues will require time and planning. I believe that the best way to address these issues is through a Strategic Planning Process that would allow for input from key stakeholders, residents, and local government.

For the time being, I would encourage anyone with an interest, ideas, or time to volunteer to contact the local Economic Development Committee. For more information, please contact the Town Hall.

Lyceum Theater Tickets Now Available at the Chinook Regional Library

Attention! Lyceum Theatre Gift Cards are now available for purchase next door at the Gull Lake Chinook Regional Library!

Over the holidays, we did not have a place to purchase gift cards during the day, so we apologize for that, as we got a lot of requests. Now, purchase tickets whenever the theatre OR library is open.

The Library hours are:

Monday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Tuesday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Wednesday: 12:00 PM - 5:00 PM Thursday: 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM Friday: 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM Closed on Weekends
