102 Year Old Former Gull Lake WWII Veteran Honoured For Military Service

Updated: Apr 6, 2023

This week, Fred Moritz, a former Gull Lake resident, was presented with a wreath on behalf of the Government of Canada in recognition of his military service. Fred was born and raised in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan, and is 102 years old. He now resides in Maple Ridge, British Columbia with his wife Karen. In 1943, King George VI decorated him for saving his bomber crew's lives and shooting down a JU88 German combat aircraft while on a mission.

Fred was presented with the Wreath by Marc Dalton, Member of Parliament for Pitt Meadows/Maple Ridge, who expressed gratitude for his service. Take time this Remembrance Day to thank a veteran for their service and to remember all those who gave their lives to ensure our freedom.
